Had a great time at The Big Crafty in Asheville at the Asheville Art Museum last Sunday. Sold pots and Sock Monkeys with my good friend Kelly. Was a great fun atmosphere with the best Asheville has to offer... young, old, weird, not weird you name it... I just love this town. My sis made the sock monkeys, the left overs are on their way back to her so check out her shop if you can't resist.

So thanks for voting! I am so psyched here in NC we have not voted for a democratic president since '76 with Carter... well I was here... I just hadn't popped out yet! I am so thankful that the American people rallied and let OUR voices be heard! Young and old, black, yellow, pale, tan, orange... male, female, gay, straight... we have to start listening and talking and moving towards peace and compassion. I truly believe this is the start of something awesome...

Mugs Mugs Mugs!

I have posted some images of my mug glaze colors... from top down the colors are Robin's Egg Blue and Rust (these are both Matte glazes and are lined with a white liner), Black Pearl and Hare's Fur(these are glossy and the Hare's Fur is lined with the Black Pearl glaze for a nice dark interior), and Cobalt Ash and Midnight Ash(these too are matte and lined with white... the lighter color is in a different style than the other colors)

As with all items at Lazy Dog Pottery, each is dishwasher safe, microwave safe and 100% food safe and non toxic... And 100% handmade by me! What could be better than a handmade mug?
I decorate each mug with some opalescent white dots so each one is unique. They sell for $18.00 each, which includes shipping and handling.

It does not matter if you vote for the same person I do but please excercise your voice and VOTE. It is too important not to. So many women fought so that women today can speak out about what is important to them... so many men too... and there are still people in this world who may never have that right... So VOTE...

Craft Attack 2008

we had a blast at Craft Attack 2008 in Charlotte NC. it was in Independence Park , the weather was beautiful and the people were nice. we were glad to be a part of the event and look forward to doing more things like this! maybe next time we will get a dog sitter and swing for a hotel room! We were on the road from our house at 5:30 am and did not return home until 9:30 pm. long day!

we were bombed with acorns from the giant oak trees in the park, but no pots were harmed!

Pizza Show Off

I have to show off our garden pizza. Richard is the best dough stretcher ever and the cherry tomato basil sauce we came up with is soooo good. Plus we have a surplus of cherry tomatos! Thanks manda for the dough recipe and thanks m & d for the freezer we are filling! Manda you's be so proud of me learning how to feed my freezer! I love pulling out a fully homecooked whole food meal and just heating it up!

Settling In

Howdy y'all... life continues down here in NC. We finally got some much needed rain. In fact our local news and my boss recorded over 5 1/2" of rain. I spent a bit of last night while Fay covered us with rain running around bucketing water out of my gradge! But every drop was needed and I am so thankful. Richard and I just started seeing it rain, even with blue arid skys we saw it rain so rain it did!

I have been working on the studio most nights. Last week I was feeling stressed, but I stopped and reminded myself just how much time I have. I giggle as I say that because I feel so stressed sometimes, but I am trying hard to live in the moment and take NOW in to its

fullist. I had a successful firing at Hank's and am really getting excited about the fairs I am a part of. In September I will be at The North Carolina Arboretum's Heritage Craft Festival. Then in October I will be hanging with the folks in Charlotte at Craft Attack! 2008. I am gearing up making as much stuff as I can. I've been cranking out bowls, mugs, tea bowls, soy nottles. I even worked out some new pendant ideas.

I will also leave you with a great pic of our Sunday morning hike. I cannot wait to get up there this weekend and see those trees happy again... clover had her first hike witha pack. We put a water bottle and peanut butter to weigh her down and she did great! Waya was loving it as she did not have to carry a thing.

Richard is settling into his new role in the Plant Sciences Department at University of Tennessee. I am so proud of him! He is really excercising those brain cells for us! I guess when he married me he had to make up for lost time! Just kidding! No he is loving it. Teaching a plant id class and getting started on his thesis ideas and classes. I will keep you all posted as new news arrives.

Not Just a Dog

I had to write this... Two nights ago I told my husband as we sat and enjoyed our fire pit grill that a dog was gonna get hit. Not sure why I said it, but I felt it. We live off a busy road see and as the random dogs barked I saw a dog getting hit yet again on our road. Of course we both thought to ourselves "I hope it is not one of our dogs"...
Today, Monday, my neighbor walked over with her dog Tater who had been struck earlier in the day by a green Toyota Tacoma. The hair stood up on the back of my neck. Tater looked fine, he should have been taken to the vet immediately but was not... so prayers for Tater... he is a small freight train so hopefully he will come through.
But it made me think of my dogs and how blessed we are that they are not people. They are better! This post is for Lucy. I have been needing to write something for her. We put her down April 4th at 2:30 after a short bout with Cancer. Bear with me because I need to say this so I can try and move on... The first time I knew anything was wrong was August of 2007. SHe had a cancerous mole removed from her chin. she recovered but was absolutely miserable from the anesthesia and post op stiches. I swore I would never do anything like that to her again. I knew at that point that it could be in other spots. That was the hardest thing I have done in my short life. I knew there was something possibly wrong but was not going to make her miserable trying to fix her for me, for us.
She hung in there for me... I hate to think about what was going on inside her. She showed none of it. She was such a good dog. I remember when I first brought her home and mom banished her to the basement(she really did need a bath). She quit whimpering only when I let her sleep snuggled against me.
I was jealous of all the dogs at Lake Wawasee that would bond off the pier after a ball, a stick or for their own amusment. We had a poodle. No offense Puds, but I really wanted a stick chasing, pier diving dog. Lucy was all that and proved it 10 years later as she almost pulled mom into the lake on a pontoon cruise.
She drove with me from IN to NC where I was to become an adult. She kept me warm when I had bronchitis, she growled at her reflection in the windows as a puppy, she let bunnies crawl on her(we had 3 at one point), she let cats sleep with her, she protected me on many a drive... she made it impossible to fish if she was anywhere around!
She was a beautiful creature... I watched our new puppy lie down in the sun today in the back yard and I could just see Lulu basking in the sun. The picture to the left was taken a few days before she passed. I am so thankful for the month of love and health we had with Lucy. They really do live in the moment. I am proud of myself for sticking to my guns about how to treat her. I wanted her last days with me to be as happy as our first. I knew she would tell me when it was time, she told me everything else.

SO Lucy was not just a dog. I know anyone who knew her or knew what she was to me will understand. She was my best friend during some of the most trying years of my life. Putting her down was really hard, but I am so glad that I listened to my heart because it was what Lucy would have wanted me to do. So here's to Princess LuLu the best damn Rottador ever. We miss you stinky.

Maybe it is harsh to open with my premonition of a dog being struck by a car... but it just made me stop and remember how fleeting our time really is and that you have to suck it all up and feel every bit of it... Thanks for listening or reading. Oh and if you have a pet and have chosen to care for it, be responsible. Have a vet and be ready to care for that pet.

welcome to the gradge...

we call my studio the gradge... that is how you say and spell garage in my neck of the woods. i wanted to post a few pics so those of you who have not seen our space could peek at where we work. I am trying to come up with some new sculptural, textural things... was experimenting with some small tiles in a dark clay. And some soup bowls with great knob handles... great for chili or soup.

After an emotional and fun visit to my family and celebrate the life of my grandfather "Bapa" i returned home to a full garden and lonely kitties! Acer our black cat came running as soon as I pulled up. I think he was happy to see me! But not as much as Nesta who climbed into my lap and loved on me. Jasmin even moved from her pillow. I love that they can "take care of themselves" for a while. Thanks Mike and Jennifer for peeking in on them!

I was welcomed by rain, which we need desperately. So our garden was very happy. It was nice to be home, and nice to have been able to stay in TN with my husband. It was so good to see everyone... here's some pictures of our late july garden... see how it's grown. And a few of our recent harvests... Today I picked a pint of sweet olive and golden nugget cherry tomatos, two gorgeous zucs, about a pound of string beens, turnips, and two yellow onions... I can't wait to see what comes next...
